Animal health business Origin has bought Nottingham-based vet Retford Poultry Services.

The group now comprises Minster Vets’ poultry and gamebird operation, Poultry Health Services and Retford Poultry Partnership, which joined the group at the beginning of May.

Retford’s managing director, Libby Harrison, said of the partnership: “We will be working closely with the team at Origin and Minster Poultry and Gamebird Vets in particular.

“This gives us unrivalled access to knowledge and support from one of the industry’s leading poultry practices, enabling us to enhance the services we offer to our clients.”

Late in 2015 Westpoint Vets divested its small and equine animal services to focus on production animals.

It is planning to launch a data service for poultry farms in the coming months that draws on the experience of Kingshay, a dairy consultancy it bought in November 2015.

Keith Warner, who is director of monogastric species at Origin, said the group now served more than one-quarter of the combined UK poultry and game sector.

“Our vision is to ensure the optimal health, welfare and production of all of the animals under our care by offering our clients access to world-class knowledge, information services and products,” he added.
