Texel ram lambs met strong demand at the English National Texel Sale, Worcester, with trade topping 5,400gns.
Taking the top call of the day was Peter Woof’s Stainton Vantage II. This is a full brother to Peter’s 11,000gns lamb at Lanark last week and is an Anglezarke Uno son out of a dam by Sportsmans Tremendous II. He went to Messrs Draper for their Claybury flock.
Second best price was a 5,000gns bid for Teiglum Valiant from the Clarks, Lanark. This one is by Kelso Ultra and out of a dam by Strathbogie Smokey Blue. He sold with an index of 373 and headed home with Jonathan Rees, Abergele.
Two lambs then sold at 4,000gns.
First of these was David Gray’s second prize recorded lamb from the pre-sale show, Tima Valentino, Scottish Borders. He’s a Llyfni Usain Bolt son out of a dam by Thinacres Grenade. He has an index of 363 and sold in a two-way split to Robert Laird, Cambwell, and Allan Campbell, Strawfrank.
The second at the same money was another of the prize winners Robert Cockburn’s Knap Vogue, from Crieff, Perthshire.
He won reserve male and reserve overall champion in the pre-sale show. This Tamnamoney Tuborg Gold son is out of a dam by Knock Papoose and sold to Henry Gamble for the Springwell flock, Northern Ireland.
Aberdeenshire’s Robbie Wilson then sold Milnbank Vorderman, a third prize winner at 3,600gns. This Strathbogie Untouchable son is out of a dam by Kelso Picasso and sold to the Quick family and Nicola Hartwright in a two-way split for their Loosebeare and Hartwright flocks, respectively.
Then at 3,500gns was Cambwell Victory from Robert Laird,Stirling, with this one being a Cambwell Trademark son out of a dam by Allanfauld Rockafella. He sold to PJ Evans, Talgarth, Brecon.
After that came a 3,400gns call for Hull House Voyager from John Mellin, Skipton. This Hilltop Predator son is out of a dam by Castleknowe Matchmaker and sold with an index of 207, being knocked down to Ben Baggott Farms, Little Haywood, Stafford.
Shealring ram trade topped 2,500gns for the best of the offering from Nicola Hartwright’s Whitehart flock, Bringsty, Worcestershire. This was Whitehart Ultra Modern, a Cherryvale Shergar son out of a dam by Hendre Oh Boy. He sold to the Quick family for their Loosebeare flock.
Meanwhile a new record average and clearance rate of 89% clearance and £757.06 was set for shearling ewes.
Leading trade at 7,000gns was the female and reserve overall champion from the pre-sale show, Tom Evan’s gimmer, from South Wales.
This one, ESW1300234, is a Mossknowe Pudsey daughter out of a dam by Swaites O Sullivan. She sold to Messrs Boden and Davies for the Sportsmans flock, Cheshire.
Second best at 4,000gns was Robert Cockburn’s gimmer CKP1304946, a Tamnamoney Tuborg Gold daughter out of a dam by Ettrick No Limits. Her grand dam is dam of the 145,000gns Knap Vicious Sid. She sold to Carl Henry Bellis for the Cosyn flock, Holywell, Flintshire.
