Prime hogg trade up on the week at Lancaster

Trade for prime hoggs lifted on the week at Lancaster, with auctioneers reporting all classes were sharper and easier to sell.
Trade levelled at 187ppk – 13ppk up on the week. Best meated lambs reached a top of 228ppk (or £98 a head) for a pen of Texels from R and DM Cardwell, Stalmine. Suffolks reached at top of £88/head for heavy weight lambs from G Riley, Bolton le Sands. Well finished Suffolks regularly above £80/head. Mules from WI and A Atkinson, Bleasdale, sold to £80/head with others from RH and C Ayrton, Abbeystead at £79/head.
Cast ewes also met a sharper trade. An entry of just short of 100 cast sheep sold to a top of £91/head for a pen of five Texels from E Lund and Son, Ingleton. Next best at £82/head was Texels from R and DM Cardwell, Stalmine. All Texels forward averaged a very respectable £69. Topping the Mule section was CA and J Alty, Warton, at £52, followed by a pen which average £51 from Dovecote Farm. All Mules averaged £51.
