Ruthin show potential calves peak at £6800

It looks as if the commercial show scene will be graced by a few high priced cattle this summer with prices at Ruthin reaching a peak of £6800 yesterday.

Leading the way was the reserve champion from the pre-sale show, an August 2008-born British Blue cross heifer from Trefor Jones. This one sold to Mike and Melanie Alford, Devon.

Then at £5900 A and J Powell sold the overall champion a Limousin sired steer to Phil and Sharon Sellers, Derby.

Next best was a £4900 sale for a British Blue cross steer from E Edwards, this one was born in May last year and sold to the Alfords again.

Then at £4100, D J Lloyd and Co sold an April 2008-born Limousin cross heifer and this one too went back to Devon with the Alfords.

There were no other bids above £3000, with the next best price being a £2900 sale for a March 2008-born Limousin x British Blue heifer from Messrs Owen, Trefor, Caergybi.

And the only other transaction above £2300 was made when the Sellers bought another for their show team, this time a British Blue x Limousin heifer from G E Davies and Sons, Sarn, Newtown.
