Sarkley Limousins top at 28,000gns

The statement in the front of the Sarkley production sale catalogue certainly rang true last week when yearling and two-year old Limousin heifers from Glyn, Chris and Nigel Pennie met a roaring trade at Carlisle.

And it was usual big spender Peter Smith of Banbury-based Smiths of Bloxham who got proceedings going, securing the top priced heifer Sarkley Arriana for 28,000gns. Sired by noted sire and Talent sire Ronick Gains and out of Sarkley Narriane, one of the herds top brood cows, this June 2005-born heifer sold with some impressive bloodlines behind her.

Sarkley%20top%20priced%20heifer.jpgSecond highest price on the day came from Christine Williams. Going back to the Shropshire-based Wilodge herd with a 24,000gns price tag was Sarkley Bellola, this time a powerful heifer out of Cloughead Lord.

Described by the Pennie’s as having tremendous potential for the show ring, she sold with a wealth of genetics behind her consisting of Heros, Cannon, Gaulois and Gains and dams which include Sigit, Broadmeadows Ainsi and Sarkle Judi.

Commenting after the sale, Christine said it was her depth of pedigree that first attracted her to the heifer. “She is a well balanced, correct heifer, full of style.” And although she has show potential, the plan is to flush her to new herd sire Clydevalley Arty, bought at the May Carlisle bull sale for 24,000gns.

Mr Smith later came in again at 10,500gns taking home a Rocky daughter, Sarkley Arragon. a heifer with muscle and shape, Arragon has a muscle depth, muscle score and beef value of LM+42, putting her in the top 1% of the breed.

Smiths of Bloxham carried on loading their wagon with yet another Rocky daughter, this time Sarkley Barragon, an April 2006 heifer out of the homebred cow Shona. Again with an impressive breeding value of LM+34, she is full sister to the 10,500gns heifer.

Carrying bloodlines including Rake Terrence, Cannon, Gains and Goldies Vainquer, Sarkley Alice also joined the Smiths load, selling for 8000gns. The February 2005-born Cloughead Charlie-sired daughter out of Sarkely Sheryl sold in calf to Sarkley Voltigeur.
