Second Builth ram sale hits 1050gns

A shearling Texel ewe from John Davies’ Ammanford based Aman flock topped the second re-organised multi-breed NSA sale at Builth Wells for 1050gns to John Jenkins, Ceredigion.

The second highest sale price was achieved when John and Audrey Evans, Llanybydder paid 810gns for a Bluefaced Leicester ram lamb forward from the Jones family, Haverfordwest.

A Charollais ram lamb from Lionel Organ, Llandyssul went to Henry Yates from Shropshire for 780gns, leaving Mr Organ to muse that he would have realised a four figure sum in a normal season. Demand for Suffolks was good with 80 of the 81 entries sold for an average of £198.84, and a peak bid of 550gns on a ram lamb from John Pryce, north Powys.

Less popular breeds struggled to attract buyers with many sheep left unsold. Only one of the eight Zwartbles ram lambs entered changed hands for £78.75 and some even failed to attract maiden bids of 20gns.
