Sedgemoor Holstein stars sale hits 7000gns

Tuesday’s Holsteins Sale of Stars at Sedgemoor, Somerset, drew the crowds and the bids for the finest of the Holstein genetics on offer in the south west.

Leading the sale from the 25 lots on offer was a 7000gns bid for the third last lot in the ring Moorshard Goldwyn Delight from Randolph and Brian Miller. This November 2008-born ET bred daughter of Braedale Goldwyn is out of Moorshard Outside Delight, a former supreme champion at the Welsh Dairy Show. This Comestar Outside daughter gave 13,028 in her second lactation and is dam to Moorshard Golden Delight which sold for 6300gns at the Summertime Showcase Sale. Goldwyn Delight was snapped up by Martin Hussell for his Perrins herd.

Next best call at 4200gns came for the last live lot of the evening Lilylane Wildman Kitty 31. This January 2009-born daughter of Ladys-Manor Wildman is out of Lilylane Shottle Kitty 21. The heifer was consigned by Les and Karen Bennett and was bought by Raymond Spiller of the Fullwood herd.

Third best sale of the night was for the only milking lot of the evening, Daystar Shottle Rhapsody, a second calver from 11 generations of VG or Excellend dams consigned by Daystar Holsteins and F H Chave and Sons. By Picston Shottle and out of Bricknell Igniter Rhapsody 3, she sold for 3,700 gns to join the Miller’s Moorshard herd.

The final bid above 3000gns came for another from Moorshard, this time a Ladys-Manor Remington daughter, Moorshrd LadyRemington Amanda. This embryo-bred heifer is bred from eight generations of Excellent and sold at 3500gns to the Twose family, Carmarthen. She is full sister to an embryo contract sold to a German AI stud.
