Selective mood at Solway and Tyne Texel sale with 1,500gns high

Buyers were in selective mood at Carlisle on Friday for the Solway and Tyne Texel Breeders Club’s gimmer sale with prices hitting a top of 1,500gns for the champion from the pre-sale show.

This was a gimmer from Okehampton, Devon-based Angus and Sue Howie’s Millhose flock. Sired by Rowandale Rocky, this one, HNL 1100316, is out of a dam by Millar’s Olympian and goes back to Muiresk Forever. She sold in-lamb to Millhouse Superstar and was taken by R Harrison, Skipton.

Taking the sale’s second best price at 900gns was a gimmer from  Messrs Hepburn’s Northhouse flock, Hawkick, HEU 1100052. Sired by Alwent Ram Rod, she is out of a dam by Ettrick Nightrider and sold in-lamb to Knock Papoose. This one was knocked down to Messrs P and L Phillips, Rumbolton, Herefordshire.

And then selling for 800gns was a Rowden gimmer from Messrs Watts, Taunton, Somerset. The Watts’ pen topper was WRR 1100120, a daughter of homebred sire Rowden Rosco out of a dam by Clougher Judge. She was sold having been served by another homebred sire,  Rowden Saturn, and found a new home with John and Sarah Williams, Huntigndon, Cambridgeshire.

Laine Daff, Uplawmoor, the sold a ewe lamb from the Greenside flock at 750gns. This was DEG 1200161 a lamb by Cowal Rio and out of a dam by Alwent Matt. She sold to David Prince and family, Stonedge, Derbyshire.

Following her at 650gns was another gimmer from the Millhouse pen, HNL1100317, a Knock Rocket Man daughter out of a dam by Millar’s Outsmart. She sold carrying twins to homebred tup Millhouse Superstar and went to C S Hewitt, Tatham.

Averages; one ewe £273, 83 gimmers £356.30, eight ewe lambs £353.06 (Harrison and Hetherington).
