Skipton Texels fly to 4,500gns

Trade hit 4,500gns and all averages were up at the Northern Area Texel Sheep Breeders’ two-day show and sale at Skipton last week (14-15 September).

Shearlings lifted £43.13 on the year and topped with Richard Wilson’s Crimple Head flock, Beckwithshaw, Harrogate.

The March 2016-born Crimple Head Your The Man was the pick of four Parkholme Van Dyke sons, himself a Parkholme Telegram Sam son.

The top bid came from local John Mellin to work on the 200-head flock he runs with wife Linda and son Duncan. Three other Crimple Head shearlings hit 1,100gns, 1,000gns and 750gns to average £1,929.

Two tups from the Moor Top flock of David Towell, Glusburn Manor, then made a joint-second top price of 3,500gns. Both were by Moor Top Wildfire.

First up was Moortop Yahoo out of a dam by the 3.500gns Moor Top Star, knocked down to the Priestley’s Brontemoor flock, Kirkambeck, Brampton.

Second at this money was Moor Top Ya Belter, which was bought by Angela Nairey, Meinspride flock, Luisey, Blackburn. He is out of a dam by Moor Top Union Jack.
