Skipton dairy trade reaches £1860

Gordon Beresford, Green Farm, Halton West, took top honours and the top price of the day at the opening June Craven Dairy Auction with a newly calved Holstein heifer giving 34 litres.


The champion, a daughter of the Semex sire Karona Bonair, out of a homebred cow sold for £1860 to Wick Williams, Nantwich, Cheshire.


A regular buyer at Skipton, Mr Williams also snapped up both first prize winners in the two remaining show classes. He paid £1700, again top price in class, for the first prize fresh calved cow and reserve show champion from Robin Jennings’ Stainbank herd, South Stainley, Ripon, also acquiring the victor in a special show class for fresh calved Jersey dairy cattle.


This was exhibited by Richard Saxby, showing on behalf of W Stapleton and Son, Switchers Farm, Hellifield. The red rosette winner was a third calver by Qzic, purchased from South Yorkshire breeder John Dickinson, Doncaster. She was giving 25 litres a day.
