Skipton dairy trade sees seasonal boost

An improved seasonal trade saw a quarter of the entry sold for more than £2000 at Monday’s Craven Dairy sale, Skipton.


Taking the top call of £2280 were Malcolm and Robert Swires with their first calver that headed when selling to Glenn and Roger Kellett, Bishop Thornton.

Second best of the sale was £2220 paid for the best of the fresh calved cows. This was another from the Swires, which was bought by Tom Green, Wigan.

And the Swires had the third top call of the day too when £2200 paid for their reserve champion from the pre-sale show, a daughter of Myersdale Westminster which also sold to the Kelletts.


Selling at £2120 was the pre-sale champion from Brian Moorhouse, Bell Busk. With his winner a Toystory daughter which calved two weeks before the sale and was sold giving 26 litres a day. She went to Stephen Jeanes, Glusburn.


 Averages; fresh calved heifers £1815, fresh calved cows £1490, in-calf heifers £1237 (Craven Cattle Marts).
