Skirwith Hall Farms dominate top prices at club sale

Numbers may have been down at this month’s Border and Lakeland Holstein Club sale, Carlisle but quality certainly wasn’t hindered with a top price of 2000gns for one of the youngest heifers in the sale.

Forward from Skirwith Hall Farms, Penrith the two year old Stowbeck Roger Pansy sired by Dalebank Zen Roger was bred from a high producing family and sold to J B and J Hanley, Edderside, Maryport.

Also from Skirwith Hall Farms and just 50gns short of the top price was the top price cow Stowbeck Almeria Anne.  Sired by Pachecas Aaron Almeria she was sold giving almost 40kgs to J L Graham, Gretna.

Then at 1900gns and also the champion on the day was another from Skirwith Hall Farms, Stowbeck Lheros Connie. By Comestar Lheros from an Excellent Igniter and then a VG grand dam with more than 50t lifetime, she now joins the herd of J B and J Hanley, Maryport.

Two more bids of 1900gns were achieved first for Cotegill Ann 17 forward from E and K Bland, Tebay, Penrith. By Berryholme Lemar and out of Cotegill Ann 10 she sold to J B and J Hanley, Maryport.

One of the big attractions to the sale was the special consignment of young calves from the Newheaton herd owned by the Douglas family, Northumberland. With many of the heifers sired by well known bulls, star of the consignment was a heifer sired by one of Goldwyns young sons Gillette Jordon. Newheaton Jordon Selina sold for 1150gns to C Dent, Kirkby Thore.

Next in the money was a daughter of Picston Shottle, Newheaton Shottle Nina 2 which sold for 1100gns to M Ridsdale and Son, Calthwaite.
