Solid trade for ewe hoggs at Stirling

Despite the downturn in prices for new season lamb, ewe hoggs sold to a solid trade at United Striling last week (20 May).

Scotch Mule hoggs sold to a top of £145/head for a pen of 15 consigned by S Coubrough, Hartside. Buyer was G Allan, Bogside. Altogether they averaged £125, up slightly on the year by £1.85.

Trade for Texel ewe hoggs jumped £10.41 on the year and topped at £450 for a consignment from Drimsynie Estates. Buyer was McKerrow, Nochnary.

Meanwhile Blackface ewe hoggs sold to £1700 twice for a pen of ten from Messrs Wood and Hunter, Dalchirla. These were purchased by Aberuchill Estate and Mr D Brannagan, Co Down.

A pen of four at the same money and from Messrs HA Blackwood was taken by P Grant, Co Down. Although averages for Blackface were down £42 on the year, leveling at £130.70.
