South Devon bull sells to 5,400gns at breed sale

The South Devons’ autumn show and sale at Cirencester last week realised a high of 5,400gns for the reserve male champion North View Claudius from Mr O Brewin, Leicestershire. This bull is by Welland Valley Crusader, and out of Welland Valley Claudia 6, and sold to PS and AP Rowe.

Next in the money was a 4,000gns bid for J Shinner and Sons, Buckfastleigh, Devon, with their bull AI Z Stretchford Icarus 2. He sold to K R Davis, Wincanton, Somerset; followed by the male champion Lumbylaw Horizon 6 selling to C Grisedale, Llanon, Ceredigion.

Females topped at 3,000gns for the champion and reserve, selling respectively to MA and C Sandbach and Son, Wadebridge, Cornwall, and to Mr and Mrs K Webber, Roxwell, Essex.

The champion was Mr Scott’s Grove Celandine 125, a maiden heifer with high performance figures, by AI Woodhayes Homer 5. Reserve female champion was in-calf heifer, Mr R K Rundle’s Kestle Buttermaid 118, by Lumbylaw Leo 2.
