South West Limousin sale tops at 3000gns

Leading trade at Bristol Sales Centre this week for theSouth West Limousin Club sale and reduction from Vicky Maynard and Matt Smith’sExeter-based herd was the overall champion Columbpark Urence, a November 2003cow suckling a Rombalds Utah bull calf at foot.

The cow is by Ringway Romeo and is out of the Broadmeadows Lydo daughterColumbpark Ponsetia. She sold for 3000gns to an undisclosed buyer.

Selling for the same money was the male and overall reserve champion and fifthlot in the ring Loosebeare Drogba from the Quick family, Devon.

Drogba is aJanuary 08 bull by Tomschoice Usurper out of Loosebeare Irma and sells with abeef value of +33 and a calving value of +2 and heads to Newquay, Cornwall withG A Richards Farms.

At 2900gns W H White, Devon, sold Exmoor Claret, a Cloughhead Umpire maidenheifer out of a Sympa homebred daughter to Jack Neale, Launceston, Cornwall. Justshy of that money Martyn Baker , Devon, sold Rill countess for 2800gns. This was a Grahams Samson daughter outof the Ronick Hawk daughter Rill Tangerine and knocked down to T Hilsdon, SouthMolton, Devon.

Continuing a strong run from Vicky and Matt’s reduction was another Romeodaughter Columbpark Aphrodyte, again sold with a Utah heifer calf at foot. Thepair sold for 2800gns to D j and C E Nott, Ashreigney, Devon.

 Another Romeodaughter Amarylis followed at the same money with a bull calf at foot to E Jand C M Ley and Son, Torrington, Devon, while Columbpark April, again with thesame breeding sold straight after for the same money to f E Cottle and Son,Trowbridge, Wiltshire. This one stood reserve Continental champion atSmithfield in 2006.

In the commercials Vicky and Matt led the way selling a 10 month old Limousincross heifer by Columbpark Archers for £1400 to R Kingston, Bridgewater,Somerset, while the Cheaker family, Bristol, sold a Limousin x British Blue xAngus steer at 11 months old by Turville Venture for £1100 to R F Spiller,Taunton, Somerset.

Averages 5 bulls £2509.50; 5 cows served and/or suckling £1890;11 served heifers £1713.41; 13 maiden heifers £1690.50; Columbpark 7 cowsserved and/or suckling £2692.50; 4 maiden heifers £1207.50 (Harrison and Hetherington).
