Stirling Bull Sales: Simmentals sell to 16,000gns

Topping trade in the Simmental ring with a 16,000gns bid was John Jeffrey’s Kersknowe Dandy 12 from his Kersknowe prefix in Kelso. This March 2012 born bull is sired by Starline Apollo and out of Kersknowe Angelic. He sold to CMR Soutar, Arbroath, Angus, carrying a TSI and SRI of +72 and +91 respectively.

Next best with a bid of 15,000gns was the November 2012 born pre-sale junior and overall champion Atlow Dixon 12 from David Donnelly, Hulland Ward, Ashbourne. He is sired by Lisglass Barnabus and is out of the show-winning cow Kilbride Farm Dora. Buyer was Stewart Stronach, Keith, Banffshire.

Mr Stronach went on to re-coup some his outlay when selling his March 2012-born reserve senior champion Islavale Donald 12 for 14,000gns. Sired by Curaheen Bandit he is out of the Glenturk Premier daughter Islavale Teresa and carries an TRI and SRI of +83 and +91 respectively. The hammer fell to Strathisla Farm, Blairgowrie, Perthshire.

The Robson family, from Doagh, Ballyclare, made 11,500gns when selling Kilbride Farm Digby 12 to Stewart Farm, Lennoxtown, Glasgow. He is one of the first sons of Crugmelyn Brenin 10 to be offered at auction and is out of a homebred dam. He carries am TSI and SRI of +87 and +91 respectively – within the top 10% of the breed.

 

At the same money was Bel Dhu Drummer 12 from WG MacPherson’s Blackford herd in Croy, Inverness. This Drumlone Anchor son was born in August 2012 and is out of a homebred dam sired by Kilbride Farm Strabane, who also bred the supreme champion and record breaking 45,000gns Bel Dhu Capercaillie sold at last year’s fixture. Buyer was A Strachan, Brechin, Angus.

 

Just shy of this at 11,000gns was the 18-month-old Innerwick Dougal 12 from Messrs L Moffat, Innerwick, Dunbar. Sired by Castlegale Titan he is out of a homebred dam and carries is within the breed’s top 1% for SRI. He sold to WA Penny, Duns, Berwickshire.

 

Next came three more five figure calls of 10,000gns. First of these was Ryden Darthvader from Andrew Ryder, Blackford, Carlisle. Sired by Clonagh Tiger Gallant he is out of Annanwater Venice. Buyer was MacFarlane Farms, Duns, Berwickshire.

Second at this money was Denzies Dictator 12 from A Barlow, Preston, Lancashire. Sired by Ashland Tornado he is out of Denzies Trixie Belle. Purchaser was S B Morrison, Muir of Ord, Ross-shire.

1722014 Lot 142

The final five-figure call went to Kersknowe Deputy 12, from the same stable as the top priced lot. Sired by the same sire as the sale leader he is out of Kersknowe Ros. The hammer fell to DC and JJ Marshall, Biggar, Lanarkshire.
