Stirling (Perth) Charolais bull preview

Having completed the Carlisle Limousin preview earlier today, here’s my take on the Charolais entries for next week’s sale at Stirling.

As I pointed out earlier on the Limousin preview this is only my opinion on those forward, feel free to point out anything you feel I’ve missed that you rate highly.

First pick for me is Inverlochy Diehard (lot 603) from the Irvines. This is a Lochend Apache son out of Inverlochy Thursday, an Inverlochy Resolve daughter. He comes with a TSI of +37 and an SRI of +43.

After that I’ve marked Bonerbo Excalaber from Andrew Stevenson (lot 611). This is a son of Balmyle Bollinger, sire of Martin Irvine’s 26,000gns Anside Excalibur at Carlisle earlier in the year, and out of Elgin Ulrika, a Rumsden Samurai daughter. His TSI is +26 and SRI of +36.

One from Muray Lyle catches my eye next in the form of Glencardon Emperor (lot 626). This son of muscle throwing sire Doonally New is out of Glencardon Una, an Indurain daughter and was bred by Denis Carey. He was male champion at Perth Show this year.

Following on I’ve then marked one from Neil and Graeme Massie, Blelack Edam (lot 637). Sired by 26,000gns Balbithan Vespian and out of Blelack Armelle, a Pedr Tennesse daughter. This one has a TSI of +42 and an SRI of +48.

Another from Blelack follows in my list, this being Blelack Ebony (lot 642). He is by Swalesmoor Bayonet and out of Blelack Arianne, a Blelack Tutor daughter. He has a massive SRI of +50 and a TSI of +39.

A successful show record is behind the next pick, with this being Esgob Euros (lot 650). This Thrunton Virginian son is out of Esgob Sioned and was male and interbreed male at Oswestry show this year. His full sister was female champion at the Royal Welsh in 2008. He has a TSI of +26 and an SRI of +33.

A good easy calving sire could be Thrunton Escort (lot 653), this one is by 22,000gns Newhouse Bigal and out of Thrunton Petronella, a Blelack Jaguar daughter. He has a calving ease figure of 11.9, with a TSI of +37 and an SRI of +32.

Bill Bruce has a strong looking string in the catalogue, including anumber of Sackville Adonis sons. The first of these to catch my eye isBalmyle Echo (lot 660). This one is out of Balmyle Twilight, a daughterof the legendary Dingle Hoffmeister and has a TSI of +39 and an SRI of+48. However, he has a direct calved ease figure of -12.4, probably notone for heifers.

Another from the Campbells worth a look might by Thrunton Emblem. He isby Bigal and out of Thrunton Bracelet, a daughter of the top breedingsire Burradon Talisman. His TSI is +25 and his SRI is +26.

Adrian Ivory’s Cardean herd has one of interest in the form of CardeanEconomist (lot 674). He is by Roundhill Ohoh and out of Cardean Vixen,an Oldstone Egbert daughter. He stood second in his class at theHighland and has a TSI of +23 and an SRI of +32.

Following that is another by Balmyle Bollinger, Elgin Emperor (lot675). This is out of Strowan Sapphire, a Maerdy Empereur daughter. Thisone has a TSI of +25 and an SRI of +35, he has previously been breedchampion at Nairn and junior champion at Keith.

One from Iain Millar is next on the list, being Lochend Ernie (lot681). This Mortimer Tebay son is out of Lochend Molly, dam to LochendApache and still breeding well after 12 calves. He has a TSI of +40 andan SRI of +44.

A bull by 55,000gns Thrunton Voldemort follows that – Maerdy Eog (lot697). He is out of Maerdy Umbretta, a Maerdy Grimaldi and has a TSI of+23 and an SRI of +30.

Anyone wanting a dose of Voldemort’s father Burradon Talisman could doworse than pick Thrunton Explosive (lot 732). He is out of ThruntonVenezuela, a Moncur General daughter and has a TSI of +23 and an SRI of+38. He was junior male champion at the Scottish National CharolaisShow 2010.

Getting through the classes now and the next pick for me is GoldiesEmpire (lot 753) from Hamish Goldie. He is by Goldies Ambassador, amaternal brother to Goldies Banker, and out of Goldies Banjo, a GoldiesUppermost daughter. He has highly impressive figures with a TSI of +53and an SRI of +58 and positive calving figure of +9.9.

And if you thought those figures were high, then the next pick,Balthayock Eminence (lot 763) impresses even more in this department, with a TSI of +51 and a massive SRI of +61. He’s by Balbithan Vespianand out of Balthoyock Angelica, a Hoffmeister daughter.

I’ll be intrigued to see Rumsden Eire (lot 779), this is a grandson ofDoonally New, being by Limkiln Bosco and is out of Rumsden Shannon, aDoonally Prince daughter and dam of last year’s Royal Show reservechampion Rumsden Donegal. He has had a successful show season in thesouth, but carries a direct calving ease figure of -17, so could needusing carefully.

And finally for my selection is another Goldies bull Goldies Escort. This is by Blelack Blackberet, himself a Thrunton Socrates son and isout of Goldies Butterfly, a Balthayock Ulex daughter. He has a TSI of+42 and an SRI of +47.

As ever, feel free to add your selections below…..
