Blistering trade saw prices top £1,306 a head at Knighton’s store spring prize show and sale last week (17 April).
Overall store steers averaged 238.47p/kg (£649 a head) and sold to a top price a kilo of 333p/kg (£1,100 a head) for a 330kg Limousin x steer from DJ Lloyd, Cefnbarrach.
Top price a head of £1,320 was paid for a 560kg Limousin x steer from TM and EE Williams, Nantygeifr.
This was closely followed at £1,295 for six 600kg Limousin steers from A Thomas, Llanliggo and a 570 kilo Limousin x steer from TM and EE Williams, Nantygeifr.
The champion pen of steers, weighing 435kg, from SJC Morris, Whitcott Evan, made £1,140 a piece.
Two 340 kilo Limousin x steers made from HG and IW Rees, Faidrefach, made £1,000 a piece.
A run of cattle from TM and EE Williams, Nantygeifr, sold to 293p/kg (£1,170) for three 400 kilo Limousin x steers.
Meanwhile store heifers averaged 225.71p/kilo (£901.12 a head) and sold to a top price per kilo of 358p/kg (£1,180) for a 330kg Limousin x heifer from DJ Lloyd and Co, Cefnbarrach.
Top price per head was £1,360 for a 460kg British Blue x heifer (296 pence per kilo) from S J C Morris and Sons, Whitcott Evan.
