Strong demand at Blackmoor Gate sale

Exmoor Farmers Livstock Auctions reported a strong trade at a packed Blackmoor Gate Market with some 3,124 ewes and lambs going under the hammer.

Ewe lambs averaged £6 above the last sale at £70.91, with a top price of £83 achieved by Messrs MA & M Collins.  Store lambs followed suit with an average of £62.60 – a rise of £2 on the previous sale – with the top price of £79 secured by a pen from Mr SJ Belle.

The auctioneers said producers selling grazing ewes benefited from the “brisk trade” and reported strong demand for stock with the average up £5 on previous sales, at £62.60.  Mr DE Kingdon sold the top price ewes on the day for £88.

Despite a smaller entry of breeding ewes, an average of £67.35 was achieved, with a top price of £104 for ewes from Mr England.  Sales of breeding rams went slowly, and reached an average of £102, with a top price of £200 going to a shearling from Mr T Hasson.
