Strong demand for Herefords in France

A second major consignment of Hereford heifers and bulls has been exported to France.

The shipment included six bulling heifers and a bull from the Boundless Herd of B H and M R Myers, Goldalming, Surrey; six heifers from the Hillrow herd owned by A G Wright and Sons, Ely and three in-calf heifers from the Reydon Herd of John Little Farmers, Chelmsford.

Richard  Beale of Stanford Livestock International organised the shipment of the

16 cattle to French buyer, Geoffray D’Herbecourt, Saint Molf, Anjou.

Messrs Myers also sold the 22 month old bull, Boundless 1 Edge, sired by Boundless 1 Voltage to Pascal Bastien, Bagneux in the east of France.

Making a return trip to the UK was Jean-Christophe Betis, St Ceneri le Cerei, Normandy. He purchased a two year old bull, Fisher 1 Earl, sired by Doonbiddie Hustler and two in-calf heifers, Fisher 1 Pansy D226 and Fisher 1 Clover C198.

Both were in calf to successful show winning bull, Fisher 1 Cracker and all three were bred by W J Hutchings and Sons, Chichester, West Sussex.

The two bulls in the shipment are destined to go to the British Breed stand at the SIA Show in Paris next Spring.

The French Hereford Association is now working closely with Institut de L’Elevage to demonstrate the relevance of the Hereford breed in French cattle production systems, says the Hereford Cattle Society.

“The association team have also managed to get the support of major meat companies to develop the awareness of the breed at production level, but also further down the beef chain.”
