The annual show and sale of terminal sire rams at Lancaster attracted a strong entry of rams, although trade was selective with well-grown, good conformation rams in strong demand.
Leading the day’s top price at £880 was the reserve champion, a Beltex x shearling from ST Birkett of Hall Croft.
James and Joe Wannop of Heaton Hall twice sold Beltex x rams to £700.
The champion ram a Texel shearling from JT and J Kelsall, Summerlands sold to £680. Good tups easily sold £500 plus with others selling £350 plus.
Auctioneers at NWA Auctions said despite there being a good consignment of Suffolk rams buyers were slightly cautious of purchasing them this year with the current low prime lamb prices.
The champion Suffolk ram from S and G Mellor, Windicott Farm went on to sell for a top price of £650.
