Study shows Traffordgold can boost beef margins

Beef farmers have the potential to improve bull beef margins by £39 a head by feeding Traffordgold-based ration, according to recent trial results.

Harper Adams University College found bulls on a moist Traffordgold mix ration finished at heavier slaughter weights, had 9p/kg gain, lower feed cost and produced a £39 a head increase in margin over feed compared to bulls fed a traditional barley-based ration.

And not only was the actual cost of each kg of liveweight gain 10% cheaper on the Traffordgold-based diet there was also a 39% reduction in liver damage, said KW Feeds Richard Wynn. “Liver abscesses are typically associated with mild acidosis from feeding high starch diets,” he said.
