Sussex hit 4600gns top at Ashford
Trade at last Friday’s sale of Sussex cattle at Ashford set a new auction sale record for the breed when it hit a high of 4600gns for a five year old bull Wellington 3 of Goldstone. This Wellington 1 of Goldstone son out of Esther 1 of Goldstone, an Aylesford Poll Duke 114 daughter. Forward from his breeders Messrs Chandler and Dunn, he sold to C E and W S Millson for their Trottenden herd at Goudhurstt, Kent.
Second top sale of the day came at 2900gns when the reserve champion from the pre-sale show, Wellington 5 of Goldstone, again from Messrs Chandler and Dunn.This one is a son of the top priced bull and is out of Goldstone Snowdrop 156, a Goldstone Bruno 1 daughter. He was bought by Iain Lindsey, buying for Sir Richard Sutton’s Settled Estates, Newbury, Berkshire.
And at 2800gns was was Aysleford Poll Stargazer 1 from B W Kemsley and Son. He is by Petworth Poll Stargazer 1 and out of Aylesford Mable 22, a Peegee Regent 6 daughter. Buying this were Messrs Bloomfield, Wareham, Dorset.
In he females offered on the day the trade was led at 2200gns by Coopers Daffodil 7 from Jane Cooper. This Mayfield Supreme 6 daughter is out of Coombe Ash Daffodil 9 and picked up a host of awards last summer, including the breed championship at the South of England Show and a red ticket at the Royal. She sold with her heifer calf at foot by Mayfield Major 9 and was bought by Lynn Gasper, Rotherfield.
Second best was another from the same herd, Coopers Snowdrop 7, another Mayfield Supreme 6 daughter, this time out of Coopers Snowdrop 1, a Maplesden General 26 daughter. Thsi one was bought by Vanessa McDonald, Canterbury, for a new herd.
