Swires at Skipton bag champion title and top price

Prolific Craven Dairy championship winners Malcolm and Robert Swires, Harrogate not only landed their 14 champion title at the monthly show and sale, but went on to scoop the days top price of £2250.

 

Craven Dairy Auction July 19 champ solo pic 2.jpg Leading the way was the newly calved Holstein heifer by Myersdale Principle who has been responsible for several Swires Skipton champions. She was sold giving 32.5l to Martin Jennings, Cowlings.

 

Taking the second top price was the reserve champion, a newly calved heifer from G B Jennings, Harrogate. Giving 43 litres, she headed the class prices when joining show judge Aubrey Greenhalgh, Preston for £2000.

 

Mr Greenhalgh then went on to purchase the next top lot a fresh calved heifer from Raymond and Robert Johnson, Harrogate for £1980, as well as a £1680 bid for the first prize and top price in-calf heifer from Robert Parker, Newton-in-Bowland.  F A Holmes, Otley also achieved a bid above £1900 for their fresh heifer. This one was acquire by S Brigg, Huddersfield for £1920.

 

Then it was the turn of a Norwegian Red-cross heifer forward from the Johnsons, Harrogate.  This one sold for £1900 to Chris Harrison, Elslack. G B Jennnings also sold a newly calven heifer for £1880 to John Midgley, Luddendenfoot.

 

The Swires also sent out the second and third prize newly calven cows, the former acquired for £1880 by Wick Williams, Nantwich, the latter by T and M Green, Wigan, for £1790.
