Cheviots set new highs at Monmouthshire

The record-setting 1,080gns yearling

North Country Cheviots met a new centre record of 1,080gns and a 100% clearance at Monmouthshire Livestock Centre last week (28 August).

Record breaker was an Allanshaws Nutter sired yearling from Keith Stones, Nun Cote Nook, Richmond.

This continues the red-hot trade seen for breeding sheep so far this summer.

Yearling Hill types from G Hughes, Glan Ithon, sold to 210gns. Commercial Hill types sold to 150gns from S and CA Powell. Ewe lambs sold to 500gns and a small entry of rams topped at 600gns.  

Averages: 24 flock ewes, £275; 69 Park yearling ewes, £278; 18 Hill yearling ewes, £152; 27 Park ewe lambs, £290; six Hill ewe lambs, £120; four aged rams, £572; two yearling rams, £450; one hill ram, £248.
