In-lamb Blue Texels sell to 3,200gns at Carlisle

Averages were up at Borderway’s Blue Texel in-lamb sale on Friday 14 December, with all classes £120 to £150 dearer on the year.

However, averages were back for the Whatmore, Jonsland and Hackney flocks in the Sapphire sale. Jonsland shearling gimmers were the exception to this rule and were £158 up on the year, levelling at £919.50.

A trade-topping 3,200gns was paid for a Kingscaird ewe from Stasa Moyse, Skene, Aberdeenshire.

Peter Kemp was the breeder of the imported ewe, which was sold as part of several being dispersed because of a reduction in numbers at Saltire Blue.

The sale leader was by Dutch sire Vissers Rutten and out of a Dutch ewe by Coster. She was served to Beili Blues Peter on 25 September and was knocked down to Messrs Cooke, Abergavenny, Gwent.

Next at 3,000gns were two from the Hackney flock of Paul Tippetts and Christine Williams, Shifnal, Shropshire. First at this money was a twin-born Joe’s Alvin daughter out of Hackney Yessaintlaurent and a full sister to the Hackney team’s top three lots on the day.

She was sold to Messrs Jewitt, Romaldkirk, Barnard Castle, after being served by Turbo Blue in September.
