Tameside herd attracts 3200gns bid

The final sale to disperse the pedigree Holstein Tameside Herd of Ellis and Tom Summerscales, Stalybridge attracted a good turnout of buyers from across the UK and achieving a top price of 3200gns.


Leading trade was the third calf cow Tameside Ricki 6th, a daughter of Comestar Outside and tracing back to the well known show cow Calbrett Astro Ricki. This powerful cow calved in April and was sold giving 44.7kg to Lin Davies for his Meurig Herd, Carmarthen, Wales.


Just 100gns short of the sale leader was the catalogue cover girl, Tameside Vaakje 4th, a daughter of Integrity, who is the tenth generation of VG/EX cows form the noted Stardale Vaakje family. Having calved her forth calf in January she sold giving 46kg to Dennis Hughes, Crewe.


Then it was the term of top price bidder Lin Davies to secure the next highest lot, another fresh calved third calver Tameside Jonquil 78th who was sold giving 49kg for 2600gns.


At 2500gns Richard Thompson, Whitby, North Yorkshire selected Bosside Roma Roman daughter for his Grinkle Herd. She is the sixth generation of cows classified in the top two grades and was back in calf early November to Buckeye.


Although a few planned heifer calves were not forward on the day they still sold to 2000gns for another member of the Vaakje family sired by vSterndale Fanatic selling to J H and R Morris, Sontley, Wrexham. Renetky served and maiden heifers sold to 1750gns for a member of the Pamela family, also sired by Fanatic and to M N Probert, Shrewbury. Heifer calves topped at 1000gns for an August 2009 daughter of Atlas from the Vaakje family.
