Tavistock Galloways sell to 1700gns

Galloways sold to a top of 1700gns at the breed’s sale at Tavistock, with the ringside drawn by a level entry from local breeders.

The sale’s top price male exhibited by Exmoor Forest Farms, Simonsbath, was the two year old Exmoor Forest Rascal, a Lord of Gall-way son, out of Drumhumprhy Hope that made 1700gns when bought by A H and B E Cole, Greenwell, Yelverton.

Other leading prices included 1150gns for a 2004- born Scottish bull, Syart Mosstrooper, from Messrs Jordan, Moortown Gate, Gidleigh. This son of Hitman of Nether Cleugh and out of Syart Butterwort went home with E M Alford, Tavistock.

Top price in the females was Fowley Mirage T214 from John Heard, Hughslade. This 2008-born heifer by Montana of Nether Cleugh and out of Ben Lomond Mirage made 700gns to J Cole and Son, Ivybridge.   

A pair then sold at 680gns, the first of which was the female champion Rowbrook Freya, a rising two year old Oslo of Little Mackum daughter from Miles Partridge, Poundsgate, Newton Abbot. She sold to the day’s judge R Cornelius.

Also at this price was Fowley Major Nancy T265, this Penninghame Major daughter and out of Kirkstead Nancy.

 Much sought after was a very level consignment of Bluegrey heifers from Steve Palmer, Hannock, with his pens making ÂŁ805, ÂŁ755 and ÂŁ700.  Also much talked about was a pen full of Galloway steers from Crispin and Diana, Moortown which made ÂŁ638.

Averages; four  bulls  ÂŁ1076.25, 16 heifers ÂŁ531.30 five cows ÂŁ539.70, 24 bluegrey heifers ÂŁ761, 10 steers ÂŁ495 (Ward and Chowen).
