Texel ram lamb peaks at 38,000gns at Borderway

Ram lamb Castlecain Vavavoom hit a 38,000gns high at the Solway and Tyne Texel Club show and sale at Borderway mart, Carlisle.

Bruce Renwick’s February 2014-born trade topper was sired by Castlecairn U2 and out of a Sportsman Scania daughter. He was knocked down to a four-way split between the vendor himself, Kelso, Roxburghshire, J and H Clark, Lesmahagow, Lanark, J McKerrow, Boness, West Lothian and J and K Forsyth, Maybole Ayrshire.

Next at 12,000gns from the new quarter owner of Castlecain Vavavoom, was Messrs J and H Clark’s Garngour Vodka. This March 2014 supreme champion ram lamb is sired by Springwell Ulsterboy and out of a Strathbogie Smokey Blue daughter. He went home with show judge JW and JL Mellin, Skipton, North Yorkshire.

Two February 204-born ram lambs sold at 7,000gns, the first from Boden and Davies Sportsmans flock, Stockport Cheshire. Sportsmans Viva Las Vegas, sired by Tullylagan Tonka and by a Milnbank Special One ewe, went home across the water with J Leitch, to County Tyrone, Northern Ireland.

The second ram lamb, Knap Vinnie Jones, came from Robert Cockburn, Crieff, Perthshire. Sired by Tamnamoney Tuborg Gold, his dam was by the ET brother to 145,000gns Viscious Sid, Balter Rascal 1. He was knocked down in a two-way split to I Jones, Corwen, Clydd and HG and IE Williams, Caernarfon, Gwynedd.

A four-way share saw Messrs J and G Y Davies ram lamb, Aman Vyrnwy, reach 6,500gns. Sired by Teiglum Tornado and out of a Tophill Kiwi daughter, buyers were JC Innes and Sons, Huntly, Aberdeen, Procters Farm, Clitheroe, Lancashire, RH Wilson, Turriff, Aberdeenshire and B Buchan, Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire.

Topping the female trade were two gimmer’s from Robert Forsyth’s Kirrin and Baltier flock reduction sale, Newton Stewart, Dumfries and Galloway. The first, a Kirrin gimmer, sired by Knock Trojan Hak and out of a Kidston Olympian ewe, went to N Barclay, Insch, Aberdeenshire. The second from the Baltier flock with the same sire and out of a ewe by Ettrick Mighty Mouse went to Procters Farm, Clitheroe Lancashire.
