Texels continue good run at Lanark

Albert and George Howie, Knock, are no strangers to the higher echelons of the Texel world and this year proved no exception with their best lamb at Lanark trading at 20,000gns.

Mid-March born Knock Oregano carries an impressive index of 277, raking him in the top 5% of the breed and is by Hexus Lexus son Garngour Nobleman. Out of a dam by Anglezarke Krug, Oregano had a whopping gigot value of 5.34 and is a maternal brother to Knock Nugget, sold for 7000gns.

And another of the breed’s top names, John Forsyth, Glenside was among the action to claim the next best price when his Muiresk Nearco sired lamb Glenside Operator sold for 17,000gns. Out of a Loosebeare Imp-sired dam bred at Muiresk which Mr Forsyth bought for 4000gns.

Marina Gibb, Cuminestown, Turriff, enjoyed her best sale to date for her Haremoss flock, with her second lamb in the ring making 14,000gns. By noted sire Clinerty Las Vegas, Haremoss Ohio, is out of a homebred ewe by Craighead Hercules.

Two lambs went under the hammer at 12,000gns, the first of which came from Willie and Carol Ingram’s Logie Durno flock, Aberdeenshire. With an overall index of 178, this one is by Anglezarke Nimrod, a son of Castleknowe Matchmaker. Dam of this one is a bought-in dam by Carighead Hercules.

The second 12,000gns sale was for the best from Graham Morrison, Deveronvale with his Tophill nockout sired lamb Deveronvale Oddie. This one is out of a ewe by Anglezarke Krug.

The final five figure bid bid cameat 10,000gns from a packed ringside for Tom and Robert Laird’s best from Cambwell. This Cambwell Laird-sired tup sold with a massive index of 300, placing well at the top of the breed and with a superb gigot index of 4.84 putting him in the top 5% on gigot score. Mother of this one is a homebred ewe which is in turn by Clineryty Jedi.

Claiming 8000gns for another of their Knock pen, Messrs Howie sold Knock Orocco a Tophill Nockout son out of a dam by Claybury Legacy with an index of 200. This one is bred from the same family as noted tup Knock Firefly.
