Thainestone breeding sheep records set

Record breeding sheep averages were achieved earlier today at Thainestone when the centre’s sale of Halfbred, Cheviot, Mule and Continental shearling ewes saw the Halfbred entry level at £154.25.

This was some £67.17 up on last year, while Texels averaged £138, up £60.80 on last year. Averages in the Cheviot Mules were also up, this time by £54.37 to £140, whiel Mules averaged £122.15, up £44.45 on the year.

Topping the sale was £160/head for 40 from Westerton, Auchleuchries and the same money was given for 24 from Cairnton, New Pitsligo. Mules topped at £155 for 100 from Mains of Slains, Collieston.

Lleyn females topped at £160, while rams from the same breed made a top call of £450 for one from R Johnson, Falkirk.
