Thainestone bulls sell to 6800gns

Once again demand for beef bulls was strong at Thainestone yesterday with the trade topping at 6800gns for the reserve champion Charolais from the pre-sale show Ugie Chieftan from Jimmy Wilson, Barnyards, Mintlaw.

Chieftan is a June 2007-born son of 28,000gns sire Farleycopse Turbo and out of Ugie Olga a Beauchamp Foreman daughter, he was bought by Knockothie Farm, Knockothie House, Ellon.

Taking the second top call on the day was the overall champion from the pre-sale show, Limousin bull Anside Chico from Stephen Irvine, Braehead, Keith. This one is by Fleethill Talisman and out of Shire Lucky daughter Anside Rachel. He sold for 6000gns to Messrs Laurenceson, Shetland.

Another Limousin made the next best price of 5600gns for the best from John and Margaret Penny’s Shannas herd, Mintlaw. Shannas Cadet is an April 2007-born son of Procters Rocco, himself a Neutron son and out of Shannas Talula, a Ronick Jalopy daughter. He was snapped up by D D Moir and Son, Cuminestown, Turriff.

At 4800gns was another Charolais from Jimmy Wilson, this time Ugie Captain. Another Turbo son, Captain is out of Ugie Vicky, Maerdy Oxytone daugher. He sold to J and a Cooper, Drumngair.

Top among the Simmentals on offer was a 3200gns sale for the pre-sale show champion Balmaud Viceroy from Wilson and Geraldine Strachan, Banff. This one is by Innerwick Renown and out of Balmaud Ruth. Buying this one were J and J Grant, Earlsfield.

Aberdeen Angus trade was decidely more patchy with the best sale an 1800gns transaction for the reserve champion Harestone Edmund from Stuart Barclay. By Skaill Domino, this one is out of Inchmarnoch Edwina and sold to T and J Reid.
