Last Friday’s anniversary sale of store cattle at Thainstone attracted an entry of 1977 cattle, with the championship in the anniversary show and sale of store cattle judged by Jim Brown, Airdrie, awarded to a 554kg Limousin cross from Charolais breeder Derek Skinner, Wartle.
This one sold for £1060 to A and J Matthews, Whitelums, Gartly. Reserve Champion was a 506kg Limousin cross from Andrew Anderson, Smallburn Farms, Duffus, which sold at £900 to W B Hamilton and Sons, Bee Edge, Coldingham, Eyemouth.
Overall the 1289 steers forward sold to £1280 gross for a 738kg Charolais cross from Farmton, Tough and averaged 168.3p. Top price/kg was 232.4p/kg for a 284kg Limousin crosses from Achdregnie, Glenlivet
The 674 Heifers, meanwhile, sold to a peak of £1030 for a 454kg British Blue crosses from Dunscroft, Huntly. These averaged 159.7p and sold to 242.3p/kg for a 326kg Limousin crosses from Achdregnie.
And an entry of 14 bulls topped at £970 for a 660kg Charolais from Mormond Prop, New Pisligo. Average here was 144.4p/kg, with the top price/kg 164.8p/kg for a a 358kg Blonde D’Aquitaine from Whitefield House, Forglen.
