Thainstone dairy champ sells for 3000gns

Despite only 27 lots, the Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ spring show and sale of dairy cattle saw a top bid of 3000gns for the champion.

The overall championship went to Thainstone exhibitor Stephen Moar, Maud with the February 2005-born Cluny Ace Glenna, an Oseeana Integrity Ace sired heifer in milk yielding 34kg a day. She led trade at 3000gns to judge Callum Innes, Nairn.

1633%20-%20dairy%20champion%20animal%20%28blog%29.jpgTaking the reserve champion title was the July 2005-born heifer in milk Monyruy Rotate Ladydee from Colin G Mair, Longside. Yielding 29kg a day and sired by Monyruy Rotate Jed, she sold for 2200gns, again to the judge.

Other leading prices included 1800gns paid by A Knox, Turriff for February 2005-born Cooshaugh Zidane Maggie by Zidane from W Winton and Son, Aboyne and a call of 1600gns from Banff-based Ordens Farms for an August 2005-born heifer in milk by Hanno from Strathray Farms, Kintore.

Sale Averages – 12 heifers in milk £1,640.63; 1 cow in milk £1,522.50; 7 heifers in calf £1,470 and 7 bulling heifers £877.50 (Aberdeen and Northern Marts).
