Timothy mix lifts milk

Cows grazing Timothy and white clover swards produced 18% more milk solids a cow and 20% more a hectare than those on ryegrass and white clover, reports Dexcel in New Zealand.

Both pastures were irrigated and stocking rates averaged 4/ha on the timothy mix and 3.7/ha on the ryegrass mix.

Higher milk output was due partly to a higher clover content averaging 20%, versus 3% for the ryegrass swards.
