Tomcroft Suffolk reduction hits 2200gns
A best of 2200gns and an overall average of £484 for the 70 head offered marked a succesful reduction sale for Tom Cox’s Tomcroft Suffolk flock last weekend.
Leading the bids was the best ewe lamb bred at Tomcroft this year, a stylish Meikleson Impression daughter out of a homebred dam which is by the renowned sire Muiresk Adrenaline. Having stood female and reserve breed champion at this year’s Royal Show, the ewe lamb carried an index of £1.27 and sold to Northern Ireland to join Gary Beacom’s Lakeview flock, Co Fermanagh.
Next best was a 1400gns call for an in-lamb shearling ewe by Tomcroft Persuader. This one is out of a Stockton Caesers Son sired ewe bred in the Mair family’s Muiresk flock and goes back to Cairness Court, sold carrying twins by Cairnton the Conqueror, this one went to an undisclosed Shropshire buyer with an index of £3.44.
In at 1300gns was Ruth Watson, buying for her Sunrise flock, Cockermouth, Cumbria. Her pick of the day was another Persuader sired shearling, this time one out of a homebred ewe by Glenhead Gold. With an index of £2.93 she was also carrying twins by Cairnton the Conqueror.
Selling at 1200gns was guest consignor Steve Buckley with one from his Sitlow flock, Derbyshire. His best was a Strathisla Sinatra daughter out of a ewe by Conveth Motivator. A noted breeder, this one is dam of 7000gns tup Sitlow Sensation and, carrying triplets by Perrinpit High Peak, again sold to join the Sunrise flock.
Another Tomcroft shearling, this time by homebred sire Tomcroft Professional and out of a homebred dam by Muiresk Adonis, sold at 920gns. Also in lamb to Cairnton the Conqueror, Ruth Watson snapped this one up too.
Averages: 70 Tomcroft ewes, shearling ewes and ewe lambs £484.05; 13 Sitlow ewes £523.38.
