Finished cattle numbers were down a little at 84 with top figures of 228p/kg for D and J Coulson’s Charolais heifer from Lincoln. Realising the top bull price were the same vendors with their Limousin. Next at 212p/kg were RW Ardern and Sons Limousin cross Friesian steers.

The lack of outstanding prices was linked to a shortage of top notch cattle.  The best grossed up to £1,357 for JE Seals and Son British Blue cross steer from Shirland.

Cattle OTM reached 169p/kg for a black Limousin cow from Riverside Farmers, Scropton. Top price a head was £1,405 for a Charolais from the same vendor. Three quarters of the 124 forward were dairy cows. The overall average was back significantly by 10p/kg as these unwanted dairy cows were sold before housing.

A good turnout of calves this week saw 97 forward, bulls made £370 for D and A Dickinson’s British Blue crosses and heifers topped £310 for a consignment from J Hill and Sons.
