Welsh Black outfit sells to £2,250 at Abergavenny

The Annual Show and Sale of Welsh Black Cattle at Abergavenny attracted a mixed quality entry, with only the best sorts really in demand.


Sale topper came from Gareth and Diane James, Clarbeston Road, Haverfordwest, who sold their 2010-born cow with her heifer calf at foot for 2,250gns.  Purchaser was A Morgan Farms, Aberdare.


Messrs James were also responsible for the top priced bull when their March 2012 first prize entry went under the hammer at 2,000gns. He sold to the Botanic Gardens of Wales, Carmarthen.


Next best at 1,700gns again came from Gareth James for a 2007-born cow with bull calf at foot. The outfit sold to K Davies, Tenby.


G Jones, Builth Wells sold his first prize and champion maiden heifer at 1,650gns. She was taken by A Morgan Farms, Aberdare.


Gareth James sold another cow and bull calf outfit at 1,600gns to K Davies, Tenby.  D W and P E Evans, Llandefalle, Brecon, sold an in-calf heifer at 1,300gns to Williams Partners, Blackmill, Bridgend.
