Welsh Blacks peak at 7,200gns at Dolgellau

 

Bidding for Welsh Black peaked at 7,200gns at the breed society’s winter show and sale at Dolgellau at the weekend.

 

Sale stopper was Gwern-Cynyddion Nathan 2, exhibited by Robert John Evans, Llanbedr, Gwynedd.  The May 2012-born bull, sired by Machreth Nathan 11th and out of Gwern-Cynyddion Grug, sold to Huw Williams, Tywyn, Gwynedd.

 

Second best was the reserve champion bull Tryfil Grand Slam from Ioan Roberts, Tryfil Isaf, Llanerchymedd.

This March 2012 born bull is sired by sired by Ysguboriau Bleddyn 79th and out of Tryfil Rosella. He sold to Mr Gareth Davies, Maes y Castell, Taliaris, Llandeilo for 5,000gns.

 

Making 4,600gns when selling to EW and MM Jenkins, Talybont, Ceredigion, was Llwynsarn Black Prince, from Mr HW Jones, Llwynsarn, Rhydymain, Dolgellau.

 

Two lots made 3,800gns.

First of these was Obell Cynwch 2nd, from Messrs Edward Roberts and sons, Ty Mawr Farm, Dolgellau. He sold to Mr Alun Vaughan, Moel Iwrch Uchaf, Nebo, Llanrwst.

 

Mr Rees also made 3,400gns when selling another consignment to R Clare, Turnant Welsh Blacks, Lower Turnant Farm, Longtown. Herefordshire.

 

Topping the female section at 2,000gns was the champion from Emyr and Gerwyn Jone, Nebo, Llanwrst. Their smart heifer, Graig-Goch Marian 53rd, born July 2012, out of Graig-Goch Marian 39th and sired by Ysguboriau Banner 7th was sold to now regular purchaser Mr John Taverner, Farley Farm, Great Haywood, Staffs.

Females: four over three-years, 1,125gns; one two-three year old, 1,020gns; ten one to two year old; 1,376gns; seven under one-years; 793gns. Overall 22 females, 1,129gns.

 

Males: 15 over 18-months, 3,427gns; one 10-12 months, 3,200gns.  Overall 16 males, 3,412gns.
