Welshpool Charolais bid to 5,800gns

Who says Charolais only really sell in Perth…..not Welshpool goers that’s for sure. Ok not quite the 30,000gns we have all grown to expect at Perth, but 5800gns is a pretty impressive price for Welshpool.

Solid commercial demand for bulls underpinned by the premium marketplace for Charolais cross calves set a buoyant trade at the breed society’s official spring show and sale.

Bidding peaked at 5800gns, a 3800gns price both started and closed the sale, 31 lots sold to achieve a new centre record average of £2,868 and an 85% clearance was achieved.

Another Maerdy Naser son, this time the December 2005 born Maerdy Amaryl (CH21) made 4300gns to H B Tudor, Llanilar, Aberystwyth.

The day’s second highest bid at 5600gns came from father and son team, Glyn and Chris Pennie, Llandyssil, Montgomery for Hendy Archiemac, a 19 month old Allanfauld Vagabond son and out of a Basset Judge sired home bred cow. Archiemac was bred and exhibited by Wyn Rees, Nantyrhendy, Llangurig.

Both the first and the last lots in the ring shared a 3800gns bid. First to go was Brampton Alfie (CH24), a two year old Brampton Ronaldo son from Billy Turner, Skelton on Ure, Ripon. He sold to P L Francis and Son, Leebotwood, Church Stretton.
