Western Club sale slow to top at 3600gns

Bluetongue zoning played its part in a somewhat gloomy day’s trade at last week’s Western Holstein Club’s show and sale where only three animals broke the 2000gns barrier.

Sale leader at 3600gns was Nantwich-based Messrs Barlow’s heifer Painley Outside Baby 12. Bred from four generations of Ex or VG dams, tracing back to the imported Canadian cow Highview Inspiration Baby, she was purchased by the Vaughan Brothers for their Cilast herd at Boncath, Ceredigion, but she will return to Painley until the bluetongue zone opens for Wales.

Next highest price was the 2300gns reserve champion Wyndford Robinwood Breeze 152 from Wilfred Maddocks who sold to Robbie Bell, Knutsford, while at 2000gns, Ribblepark Monty Jacklyn from David Graveston, Clitheroe, who sold to David Alderson, Northallerton.

Averages:12 cows £1364.63; 67 heifers in milk £1569.83; 9 bulls £1203.83 (Wright Manley).
