Wilodge bull leads Welshpool sale at 7,500gns

Prices peaked at 7,500gns at the British Limousin Society’s breeder’s sale, Welshpool, at the weekend (22 November).

Sale leader was the March 2013-born champion Wilodge Inform from Christine Williams, Shifnal, Shropshire.  Inform is an embryo calf by the 50,000gns sire Wilodge Cerberus and is out of the Irish-bred dam Brookmill Catherine, and is within the top 1% for beef value at LM+48. Buyer was Tynbryn Farms, Newtown, Powys.

The sale also saw 63 females sell to gross £122,850 including a consignment from the Glangwden Herd of CL & FE Jerman, Glangwden, Trefeglwys, Caersws, Powys.

Following at 6,000gns was Shadog Imperial from GL Howells, Shadog, Llandysul.  This May 2013-born bull, who stood 4th in his class at the Royal Welsh, is by the AI sire Carmorn Copilot and is out of the Seigneur-sired Ironstone Figleaf.  He was purchased by TJ Davies, Llysynant, Llanfyndd.

Overall reserve champion Garyvaughan Iam from Colin Lewis, Buttington New Hall, Welshpool, made 5,800gns when selling to WG Woosnam, Cefn Mawr.  This April 2013-born bull is by the 35,000gns herd stock sire Plumtree Deus and is out of the homebred Garyvaughan Crusty, a Loosebeare Voyager daughter.

Temeside Icarus, from VAS and TVS Corbett, Knighton, Powys, made 4,000gns.  Sired by Rosecroft Dynamite, this young bull is out of Temeside Venus. Buyer was H Jones, Llanerchymedd, Anglesey.

Ashledge Ironbrew from AG Kirton and Sons, Severn Lodge Farm, Bewdley, Worcs, made 3,400gns when selling to BW Gittins, Craven Arms, Shrops.  April 2013-born, this calf is by Dolcorsllwyn Caio and is out of the Goldies Osprey daughter Ashledge Ultramarine.


Females saw a top price of 3,100gns paid for the heifer Twemlows Inca from WL and JA Forrester, Whitchurch, Shrops. Born in June 2013, she carries a Beef Value of LM+50 and is sired by Twemlows Dynamite. Inca was knocked down to an undisclosed buyer.

The dispersal sale of the Glangwden herd on behalf of CL and FE Jerman, Caerws, Powys, peaked at 2,800gns, twice.  First at this money was the first calver Glangwden Gracious.  Born in October 2011, Gracious is by Powerhouse Emblem and is out of the Haltcliffe Ullswater daughter Glangwden Duchess.  She sold with her heifer calf at foot, Glangwden Jean by Gronw Handsome, at foot. Buyer was RT Davies, Aberystwyth, Dyfed.

Also at 2,800gns was another Powerhouse Emblem daughter, the November 2013-born Glangwden Ianella.  This maiden heifer is out of Glangwden Daniella who combines both Haltcliffe Ullswater and Jacot in her back pedigree. Purchasing this heifer was the Sarkley pedigree herd of EH Pennie and Son, Gwern-Yr-Ychain, Llandyssil, Montgomery, Powys.

Averages: 17 bulls, £3,570; 24 cows and heifers, £1,844.06. Glangwden dispersal: 15 cows served/suckling, £2,439.50; 24 maiden and yearling heifers, £1,750.
