Winnington and Tunnelby Limousins reach 8000gns
Saturday’s sale of Limousins from the Winnington and Tunnelby herds at Shrewsbury saw a top call of 8000gns paid for Winnington Fiona, a July 2010-born heifer by Verdru from the Vance family.
This one is out of Winnington Narcisse, a Ronick Hawk daughter and was sold to Nigel and Jane Matthews, Ludlow, for the Poolehall herd which is replacing the Pyebrook herd dispersed last year.The best of the males on offer then sold at 5200gns, with this being Winnington Elite, a September 2009-born son of Objat, out of the Nebulon-sired Winnington Buddleia. Purchasers were r and B Rochelle, Bromley Farm, Bridgnorth, Shrops.
Following that at 5000gns was another by Objat, heifer Winnington Esteem. She is out of Ryedale Paragon daughter, Winnington Beatrix, and from the same cow family that bred Winnington Trumps. Born in October 2009 she was sold unserved and was knocked down to the Roughley Herd of Walter Smith Farms, Roughley, Sutton Coldfield.
Then at 4000gns was in-calf heifer, Winnington Enigma. Scanned in calf to Garnedd Cymro, this January 2009-born heifer is by Nebulon and out of Tunnelby Thumbellina. She now heads to the Bassingbourn herd of R F Turner and Son, Ely, Cambridgeshire
Also at 4000gns was the best of the day from the Tunnelby Herd of E H Thompson, Crewe. This was achieved for a cow and calf unit comprising 2007-born Tunnelby Carietta, a Ramses daughter and out of Tunnelby Henrietta. She was sold suckling her November 2010-born bull calf, Tunnelby Fable, sired by Hafodlas Abe and was sold in-calf to Ronick Hawk.
