CNH to provide machines for Haiti relief effort

Case New Holland (CNH) is to deploy excavators, wheeled loaders and other equipment from its dealer in Haiti to assist in recovery efforts following the devastating earthquake that has claimed an estimated 200,000 lives to date.

The initial earthquake, which occurred on Tuesday 12 January, measured more than seven on the Richter scale and reduced much of the country to rubble. The country has since been hit by several powerful aftershocks, one measuring in excess of six, causing buildings that had been damaged by the initial quake to become more unstable.

According to CNH, machines are also to be provided by EDOM – Empresas Dominicanas, a New Holland/Kobelco dealer in the Dominican Republic, with the delivery of up to 10 machines.

CNH says that through the UN it has also offered several pieces of heavy construction equipment to Haiti, including crawler excavators ranging from 7t to 16t, a backhoe loader and grader. The company has also announced it will match each employee cash donation dollar-for-dollar to $100,000 in addition to making a company donation of $50,000.
