Italian drill maker Forigo has developed an unusual way of sowing maize under plastic.
Its ModulaJet drill lays biodegradable film before firing the seed in an air stream through the plastic and into the seed slot.
This avoids touching the soil with any components involved in laying the seed, which may be useful when drilling in sticky spring conditions.
Sowing depth is determined by the soil opener and working speed is recommended to be little more than 4kph.
The model pictured has a list price of €54,000 (£46,500).
