Electric E-Bear utlility vehicle from Avid

This may look like a regular utility vehicle, but Northumberland firm Avid’s E-Bear is electrically powered, with two 72v AC electric motors, one in the front axle and the other in the rear.

There is no transmission in the conventional sense – the harder you push the pedal the faster it goes.

Six 12v lead-acid batteries under the seat provide the power for the motors.

They can be recharged in 3-4 hours, says the company, with the cost of the electricity coming to £1.50 a charge.

Avid says that performance is similar to that of a petrol or diesel-powered machine. Carrying capacity is 280kg and it can tow 500kg. Cost of the E-Bear is £9750.
