Kuhn shows folding disc cultivator

Kuhn Farm Machinery has added a folding version of its Optimer disc cultivator to its range of stubble tillage machines.

With a 5m working width and two rows of independently mounted discs, the new Optimer+ 503R claims to be ideal for shallow stubble cultivation at high forward speeds.

The Optimer+ 503R folds down from its working width of 5m to a transport width of just 3m.

It is equipped as standard with 40 curved 510mm discs capable of working at depths from 3-10cm, with optional smaller discs available for shallower (3-5cm), less intensive stubble clearing.

The discs are angled on two axes – in relation to the direction of travel and vertically – for improved soil penetration and trash incorporation, with each disc mounted on a redesigned arm that is said to provide increased clearance between the disc and carrying frame.

Each disc arm is protected by four polyurethane blocks that allow the individual discs to deflect if they hit obstacles.

The Optimer+ 503R needs 150-250hp and is available with four press roller options. The standard T-Ring roller is designed for crumbly clay or cloddy soils.

The optional T-Liner roller is designed for use on stony soils, while the PackLiner roller provides maximum consolidation, especially in damp conditions. The tube or crumbler roller gives a lighter-weight option for less aggressive consolidation.

Optional left- and right-side deflectors are also available, as is a comb harrow that sits between the discs and press roller to improve straw levelling.
