Sima: John Deere fuels up for the future

Diesel will eventually be harder get hold of so it’s reassuring that Deere’s multifuel tractor isn’t too fussy about what it drinks.

The adapted 6R tractor, on display at the Sima show,  has been fitted with a sophisticated engine management system that means it can run on almost any combination of mineral or bio-based diesel.

That means drivers can pour any mix of these fuels into the single tank and the tractor will work out how to deal with it.

Deere says it has already clocked-up thousands of hours testing in France and Germany with no real problems.

However, current EU legislation means that it’s unlikely to be available any time soon.
