1000 at dispersal
A CROWD of more than 1000 people turned out for the stock dispersal at Brian Pughs Bronllys Farm, Brecon, after the decision to give up the 225ha (556-acre) tenanted holding.
Mr Pugh, winner of the 1997 Welsh Lowland Farmer of the Year Award, saw freshly-calved pedigree Holstein Friesian heifers from his Brinjoy herd reach 1350gns paid by * M and T R Evans, Woodseaves, Stafford. This Ensdon Harlequin daughter was one of 14 cattle claimed by Messrs Evans and included another at 1200gns.
A United Nick first-calver made 1280gns to D G Davies, Llansawel, Llanybydder, Carm-arthenshire, and cows sold to 1100gns given by J Williams, Usk, for a third-calver by Harlequin.
AVERAGES: 98 cows and heifers in-milk £936, 22 unwarranted cows £351, nine in-calf heifers £711, 12 served heifers £526, 18 bulling heifers £438 and 23 maiden heifers £362 (Gwilym Richards with R G and R B Williams).
