£11 million boost for South West
By FWi staff
FOOD and farming businesses in the South West are to receive an £11 million cash injection under the European Union Objective 5(b).
Money from the scheme – which channels funds into economically disadvantaged areas – will be used to extend the European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund (EAGGF) project to assist farm tourism.
Lord Donoughue, junior farm minister, made the announcement at the Royal Cornwall Show last Friday.
The investment is expected to create or sustain some 180 full-time jobs and will aim to build on the success of existing projects.
Lord Donoughue said further projects were in the pipeline to ensure that the South West received the full £30m allocated to it under the scheme.
